Oh dear, a neck break...

At least it Kept it's head!

I have been asked to repair this break on a Washburn acoustic guitar.

The guitar taken a fall and has cracked along the scarf joint.

The client does not play the guitar herself, but this guitar belonged to her late father and understandably she is distraught. I'm conscious that these very strings were played by her father, so if I can help it, i want to preserve them (I want to keep the sentimental value intact).

It's not too damaged and the crack can be accessed enough by bending slightly to inject some glue and clamp, so here is a (simplified, for your reading pleasure) plan:

  • Glue and clamp and leave to dry

  • Clean up any excess glue squeeze out

  • Drop fill to repair the finish, this involves some imported materials that are not readily available in the UK, expensive but worthwhile to complete a job of this sentimental value.

  • Did I mention i'm not charging for this project? The client is a a very dear friend and deserves the service.

  • Scrape the excess finish repair flat

  • Lightly sand and using a variety of finishing materials, polish to a glass like shine

  • End the process with an invisible repair.

This repairs going to take a while so keep tuned for the updates.
